Imagining Change

Change is a constant. Even so, it is often not welcomed into our lives because of its association with suffering and disruption. Getting insight into this ironic fact that change is a constant can be a really helpful part of learning to accept and work with any challenging transition.

It can be surprising to realize the extent to which established ways of thinking and feeling have the potential to interfere with accomplishing one’s goals and intentions. Working through personal change can become an adventure of looking deeply into previously unexamined beliefs, feelings and behavior patterns that may have a bearing on everything one does. This deep listening and focusing occurs during sessions with my clients when we explore situations, relevant history, goals, dreams and everyday interactions with others. Discussing our own responses and reactions with one another during our sessions can also be helpful to illuminate, clarify and potentially strengthen communications that tend to get mired in misunderstood words and cues.
